"Christians," writes A.W. Tozer in the opening chapter of The Root of the Righteous should be both as a tree well rooted and as a temple to rise on a solid foundation. Without a sound root, there is no lasting life, he explains as he challenges the reader to focus not on the fruit, but on the deep roots from which the fruit comes. In this thought-provoking classic, Tozer examines how we can make sure we are "among the righteous," rooted and built up in Christ. A. W. Tozer asks the reader to spend time with God, understand God's love, select wise counselors, prepare ourselves to hear the word of God and accept criticism. All this while fearing God, but being concerned about the dangers of contentment and examining our motives. Tozer also addresses the factors of keeping Christ at the center of our worship, spiritual discernment, voluntary suffering and many more topics. The whole book is centered on the passage in Colossians 2:6-7. A.W. Tozer says these writings were written over the course of five years in the midst of life, not in a quiet religious setting, all the while with heaven in full view never too far removed from the rough world where children of God struggle and work and pray. These were all originally written in the Alliance Life.
