Charles Hodge is a well-known and important theologian and a defender of Calvinism. He taught at Princeton Theological Seminary for fifty years, and 3,000 ministers of the Gospel passed under his instruction. He was accorded the rare privilege, during a long life, of achieving distinction as a teacher, exegete, preacher, controversialist, ecclesiastic, and systematic theologian. He had a significant impact on the intellectual climate of the 19th century.
