For over one hundred years, The International Critical Commentary series has held a special place among works on the Bible. It has sought to bring together all the relevant aids to exegesis -- linguistic and textual no less than archaeological, historical, literary and theological -- with a level of comprehension and quality of scholarship unmatched by any other series. This series has been extended and renewed. Under the editorship of Professors J.A. Emerton of Cambridge, C.E.B. Cranfield of Durham and G.N. Stanton of Cambridge, commentaries on books of the Bible which have not appeared in the ICC before, together with new editions of many existing volumes, are in preparation. These new commentaries continue the series tradition. New evidence now available, as well as new methods of study will be incorporated, in the confident expectation that there will be an even greater need for such commentaries in the twenty-first century than there has been in the past.
No attempt has been made to secure a uniform theological or critical approach to the biblical text- contributors have been invited for their scholarly distinction, not for their adherence to any one school of thought.
